Quentin Tarantino describes the cult sitcom as his absolute favorite series: “I watch it again and again”

It is known that Quentin Tarantino not only makes films, but also watches a lot of films, elements of which he often incorporates into his own works. But Tarantino is not only one of the greatest cinephiles, he is also a series fan. This was made very clear by his last film to date, “Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood,” which ultimately was less a cinema tribute than a TV homage.

Of course, the cult director especially likes obscure crime, western and action series from the 60s and 70s, but Tarantino is also not averse to modern television, he said in an interview with has betrayed. Sometimes the creator of modern classics like ‘Pulp Fiction’ or ‘Kill Bill’ just wants to laugh and switch off – and he’s happy to do just that with ‘How I Met Your Mother’!

“My favorite show is hands down ‘How I Met Your Mother,'” said the 60-year-old, who is currently working on his tenth – and, according to his own statements, final – feature film “The Movie Critic”. “I’ve been watching this since the very first episode, it’s a show I watch over and over again.”

When Tarantino isn’t in the mood for CBS sitcoms, he especially appreciates the work of screenwriter Aaron Sorkin, who has appeared in both television (“The West Wing”) and films (“The Social Network”) for his polished dialogue. is known. “I love ,The newsroom‘”, says the filmmaker enthusiastically from the series that aired from 2012 to 2014 and depicts daily life in a newsroom. “[Sorkins] Writing art is so incredibly exciting!”

Why Quentin Tarantino has drastically reduced his series consumption

What even some Tarantino fans don’t know: In addition to his celebrated and successful film works, the director of “Django Unchained” already had some TV experience. He directed and wrote one episode each of the hospital series “Emergency Room” and the crime series “CSI: On the Trail of the Perpetators.” He also stopped by for a guest appearance (as an Elvis impersonator!) in the cult sitcom “Golden Girls”. With that in mind, his love for “How I Met Your Mother” isn’t much of a surprise!

However, Tarantino has consciously reduced his television consumption over the years. “[…] For a while […] I watched a lot of series on TV,” said the director. “I had to stop because I stopped going to the cinema. I was always in at least four different series […] caught and then had to say to myself: “Look, that’s not my point. I care about movies. I’d rather go to the cinema.’”
