Blades on reggaeton: ‘Some don’t even speak in unison’

Rubén Blades recently gave his opinion on reggaeton and the explicit lyrics currently in vogue, in a meeting for his next show at the National Stadium in Costa Rica.

The “salsa poet”, as the singer-songwriter is also called, has great respect for artistic freedom, but has personal discernment in choosing the music he listens to.

“I’m very careful with it censorship“My censorship is: if I don’t like it, I don’t listen to it,” Blades said in his meeting with Costa Rican journalists this Thursday.

Regarding explicit texts and sexual connotations some songs from reggaetoncommented a musician with more than 45 years of experience:

“Moral ideas are changingIn the 1920s, no one thought to see a woman in a bikini on the beach, it was absurd, so I personally think it’s dangerous what you mean (reggaeton songs with explicit lyrics of sexual acts), songs that unlimitedly and without any conditioning suggest appropriate behavior which will cause problems, not only for the woman or the boy, but also for society. Therefore, I believe that each generation will create its own answer, even if it is not the best.”
