British musician and former One Direction singer Liam Payne (29, “Strip That Down”) canceled his planned tour of South America at short notice due to a kidney infection.
He has been in hospital for a week with a “serious kidney infection,” Payne wrote on Instagram on Friday (local time). “It’s something I wouldn’t wish on anyone and the doctors have told me I need to rest and recover now.” They did their best to catch up with the tour as quickly as possible. In a video message, Payne apologized to his fans for the cancellation.
The tour was scheduled to begin in Peru on September 1 and then travel through Colombia, Chile, Brazil, Argentina and Mexico.
Payne had risen to stardom as a member of the boy band One Direction (“What Makes You Beautiful”). Since 2016 he has been active as a solo artist along with his former bandmates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik, who left the group a year earlier. (sda/dpa)
