With “Halloween,” “Halloween Kills,” and “Halloween Ends,” David Gordon Green gifted three sequels to the horror classic “Halloween – The Night of Horrors,” which certainly made the box office ring. Green stays true to this concept of adding an all-new trilogy to a horror milestone and consistently ignoring past updates.
With “The Exorcist: Confession” we now expect the first part of a planned trilogy, which refers to William Friedkin’s still deeply disturbing masterpiece “The Exorcist”. The first trailer that has now been released clearly shows that David Gordon Green will once again descend into nightmarish realms to teach viewers to fear.
“The Exorcist: Confession” opens in German cinemas on October 12, 2023.
This is “The Exorcist: Confession”
The desperate father (Leslie Odom Jr.) of a possessed girl (Lidya Jewett) seeks out Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn), who had the same experience many years ago with her daughter Regan (Linda Blair). Whether the Church can help again in the form of Father Maddox (EJ Bonilla) remains to be seen. In any case, the fight against the evil power from hell will again be extremely exhausting.
In addition to Ellen Burstyn, Linda Blair will also be present again. It remains to be seen if the Regan actress really got a bigger role or just a small cameo. Also in front of the camera are Ann Dowd, Jennifer Nettles, Olivia Marcus, Raphael Sbarge and Okwui Okpokwasili.
David Gordon Green co-wrote the screenplay with Peter Sattler, while the idea, like Halloween, came from Green, Danny McBride and Scott Teems. Only the William Friedkin original qualifies for the new “Exorcist.” “The Exorcist II – The Heretic”, “The Exorcist III”, “Exorcist: The Beginning” and “Dominion: Exorcist – The Beginning of Evil” play no further role in this case.
