Borderlands is the film adaptation of the video game of the same name. “Hostel” creator Eli Roth took the director’s chair, who would then celebrate his debut in the blockbuster theme. Although the film has been shooting since mid-2021 and some reshoots were scheduled at the time, it was not yet clear when the action-packed adventure would finally start in cinemas.
The game’s official Twitter account has now announced that the movie adaptation of “Borderlands” will hit North American theaters on August 9, 2024. Based on experience, one can assume that the film will then be released on the big screen in Germany on August 8, 2024. Reboots in Germany always appear on a Thursday. However, nothing has been confirmed on this so far.
Borderlands is all about treasure hunter Lilith (Cate Blanchett) who returns to her home planet of Pandora (no, Borderlands is not related to James Cameron’s Avatar franchise). She joins forces with Roland (Kevin Hart), Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt), Krieg (Florian Munteanu), Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Claptrap (Jack Black) to find the daughter of the universe’s most powerful SOB, Atlas.
With more than 57 million copies sold, the template is one of the most successful video games of our time. While confirmation of the German theatrical release should follow in the near future, one can also look forward to the first trailer for “Borderlands”. Hopefully this gives us a first glimpse of how they managed to capture the atmosphere of the popular video game.
Before “Borderlands” hits German cinemas, we can expect another film from Eli Roth, which he actually only shot after he finished working on the video game adaptation: “Thanksgiving”. It opens in cinemas in Germany on November 30, 2023. It is the feature film adaptation of the eponymous fake trailer from the movie “Grindhouse”. In it, a masked killer is planning mischief in a small American town.
