Another reason Avengers: Endgame is such a great movie experience for Marvel fans is that the movie is a nod to and a farewell to the original Avengers: Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), but most importantly Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), and Captain America (Chris Evans).
After all, the latter undoubtedly gets the best ending of them all Steve Rogers retreats into the pastafter returning the Infinity Stones to their respective time planes – and finally lives life with his great love Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), who was frozen due to his time in the ice and not awarded as a member of the Avengers. But that ending almost got ruined – and that was five years before Avengers: Endgame.
Who was Peggy Carter’s husband?
As Hayley Atwell said in an interview for her new movie “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One”, should be” in “The Return Of The First Avenger”Captain America 2: The Winter Soldierrevealed that Peggy Carter was married with kids — and not Steve Rogers aka Captain America!
Had this scene been filmed as planned, Steve Rogers’ trip down memory lane would have ended Peggy’s marriage and children, which would have given the whole thing a very unpleasant aftertaste. Fortunately, things turned out differently – and we owe that to MCU producer Louis D’Esposito:
“When we filmed the scene, the prop had a framed photo next to Peggy’s bed, a photo of Peggy with her husband and children,” says Atwell. to the movie magazine . “But Louis D’Esposito ran up to him just before we started shooting and he said, ‘Take that away. We don’t know yet. We don’t want to limit ourselves by suggesting she married this man.'”
Although in Captain America 2 we still learn that Peggy was married and had kids, yes since we never see a picture of it in the theatrical version, her husband and the father of her children could have just always been Steve Rogers – thanks to the time travel shenanigans in Avengers: Endgame.
However, it remains to be seen if we’ll see Peggy Cater or Steve Rogers (or any of their kids together?) in the MCU again.
