Normally I can’t stand 24 hours of warm water, massage and sauna. But here at La Maiena Meran Resort, the two can be combined, I promise. Let’s go. The break begins the moment you move into our room, which offers an expansive “sea view” of the city of Meran and the surrounding hills and vineyards. We enjoy it shortly after arriving in our own outdoor hot tub on the large terrace. You immediately feel like you are on vacation. Being active is completely forgotten at first.

Sleep, lie down, walk and take a walk

To be honest, the activity level doesn’t change much over the next few days. We go completely into the background as both my daughter who is traveling with me and I had a hard time with exams. Room-sunbed, sunbed-infinity pool, pool-room, room-jacuzzi, some sauna, massage, pedicure and sunbeds. In between, coffee and cake from the buffet and an afternoon snack.

In the evenings, we surprise ourselves with a newly created six-course gourmet menu on the terrace and again in the Meran valley basin, and taste a few drops of the restaurant’s rich wine selection. Always well recommended by staff who could not have been friendlier and more helpful.

After all, we will be a little active in the coming days. A longer walk in Merano takes us along the Passer River and back through beautiful passages. We do not miss the visit to Trauttmansdorff Castle. The gardens are a paradise and despite the large number of visitors, you feel even more rested afterwards. And it feels good.

If you like to be more sporty, you can use the hotel’s own gym, join one of the courses offered here, or explore the area with free mountain and city bikes. The hotel publishes sightseeing and hiking tips in its daily newspaper. If you wish, you can also take a short walk to the hotel’s own mountain cabin, the Flatscherhof. Room prices vary between 170 Euros and 380 Euros per person per night, but you get a private jacuzzi with Meran view and a small private sauna on the top floor of Meran Lodge. Anyone who decides to spend a few spontaneous days in the penthouse suite can, with some luck, spend the night cheaper, as the home places great emphasis on flexibility in all areas, including price changes due to supply and demand.

After four relaxing days in Marlengo and Meran, we started our return journey completely relaxed and full of impressions. And enriched with an experience: I can actually have fun.
