How about a knitted XXL scarf made of mohair wool in pastel tones? Or maybe you prefer crochet decorative covers for flower pots? If you dare, you can use Tom Daley’s new book “Made with love” not only to make a whole new wardrobe full of accessories, but also to spice up your home furnishings with homemade items.
Dayley (28) is a professional high diver – the best in British history. But outside of his country, the top athlete is known almost more for his hobby than his job.
sweater for frenchie
It all started at the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, when Daley used ropes to bridge the waiting times between competitions in the stands. His first photo traveled the world. In the book, which also includes instructions for knitting a pompom dog hat, Daley writes that she’s in the process of making a sweater for a French bulldog.
Since then she has knitted and crocheted all kinds of things. And he profited from it by selling relatively expensive kits such as wool and knitting needles, among other things, on his website. Much of it has already been sold out, as Daley also fueled the knitting trend that Corona triggered in the UK.
men imitate her
According to the British Knitting Association (UKHKA), around one million Britons have started knitting since the pandemic began. A spokesperson for the association told The Guardian newspaper that a quarter of the visitors to the UKHKA website were men. Before the Olympic Games it was only ten percent.
In the preface to the book, Daley writes that her husband, Dustin Lance Black, 48, suggested knitting for relaxation. Filmmaker and Oscar winner Black told him that many actors use it during breaks between sets.
Daley says the calmness and focus this hobby demands of you keeps him from brooding between competitions and getting into the “spiral of anxious thoughts” that has happened to him before. “I wouldn’t have won a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics if it wasn’t for knitting and crocheting.”
