The popular fantasy series on Amazon Prime Video finally continues: trailer for “The Wheel of Time” season 2

Even if the series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” cannot keep up in terms of budget or visual power, “The Wheel of Time” blossomed into quite a success on Amazon Prime Video 2021/22 in the fall and winter. Almost two years later, the second season of the fantasy series is about to start – and now the first full-length trailer has finally arrived:

Season 2 of The Wheel of Time will be available to watch on Prime Video from September 1, 2023. Like season 1, the new season will consist of eight episodes. The frequency with which these will be published has not yet been determined – there is a wide variety of publishing models on Amazon.

What is clear is that the second season will be an adaptation of the second book in Robert Jordan’s “The Wheel of Time” series, titled “The Great Hunt”. This refers to the hunt for the so-called Horn of Valere, which villain Padan Fain (Johann Myers) got his hands on in the season 1 finale. This horn plays an important role in the great battle between good and evil that is the climax of The Wheel of Time.

At the same time, showrunner Rafe Judkins and his team will not stick too slavishly to the book template, but – just like in season 1 – put their own stamp on the story and respond to storylines from later parts of the book series. However, those who know the books will discover some familiar elements in the first images and in the new trailer.

The plot of “The Wheel of Time” season 2

After realizing at the end of Season 1 that he is the Legendary Dragon Reborn, i.e. the Chosen One, in Season 2 main character Rand al’Thor (Josha Stradowski) must realize that the Dark King (Fares Fares) has not yet been defeated. The battle against evil continues as Rand’s use of the One Power drives him mad.

Before that, the Aes Sedai, powerful sorceresses who fight for good, try to protect him and prepare him for the renewed battle against the Dark One. Also, a new threat enters the scene in the form of the mysterious Seanchan, plagued at the end of Season 1.

Season 2 reprises Rosamund Pike as Moiraine, Madeleine Madden as Egwene, Zoë Robins as Nynaeve and Marcus Rutherford as Perrin, and Hammed Animashaun as Loial. Mat is now played by Dónal Finn following the departure of Barney Harris. Newcomers include Ceara Coveney as princess and aspiring Aes Sedai Elayne Trakand, as well as Ayoola Smart as Aviendha, one of the Aiel people.
