Two days in Legoland Germany: Ninja between hectic and mini relaxation

Heaven on earth just under three hours from Zurich. At least for our four year old son. “How many nights?” he asked for months. The expectation for Legoland Germany was huge. And he was not disappointed. After he returned, he excitedly told his friends about his experiences in the nursery. But what exactly had he experienced just outside the town of Günzburg (D)?

We receive a warm welcome when we arrive at Legoland Feriendorf. Everything revolves around Lego here anyway. Oversized figures made from the famous clamping blocks are everywhere. There is one campground (165 pitches and 39 camp barrels) and three hotels (350 rooms in total). There are also 120 cottages, each with two family rooms.

Everything is built in a huge complex of 15 hectares, but still looks compact. Restaurants, various adventure playgrounds, bowling alleys and high ropes course round off the offer.

Pain threshold for waiting times

We are staying at the pirate hotel. Room? The walls have a pirate look, wallpaper with lego action motifs, a colorful parrot on the ceiling, boxes with legos for our son. When we want to leave he says “I still want to play” – the park has already opened.

After a pleasant ten-minute walk through the forest, we stop at the side entrance of the park, which was made especially for the guests of the holiday village. It takes a few moments to find our way, especially since detailed Lego animals are waiting for us around every corner. Our son sometimes runs here and there, sometimes there. You will quickly lose the overview.

The Legoland app helps thanks to its tracking system – so you always know where you are. Important: Approximate waiting times for attractions are also shown here. The rule of thumb for us is: We never wait more than 15 minutes. After all, our son is inactively tormenting every minute. Fortunately it’s Monday, so the crowd in the park is manageable. With 113 centimeters it can be used on almost all tracks, most often the limit is 110 centimeters.

We defeated Lord Garmadon

We start with Ninjago headquarters. ninjago? Most parents of kindergarten-age children will be familiar with little Lego heroes Lloyd, Zane, Cole, Kai, Nya and Jay. We climb the little car The Ride and put on 3D glasses.

This is followed by a drive past huge screens in the dark. There we can help the little ninjas by throwing virtual ninja stars at snake monsters, bone hunters and of course the bad guy Lord Garmadon. It sounds more brutal than it is.

57 million Lego pieces

Overall, the park has been lovingly designed. It has been continually expanded since it opened in May 2002. There is hardly a year in which nothing new is created. The latest hit is Mythica, the eleventh theme area. The magic world has a roller coaster (Wing Coaster), a free fall tower (Fire and Ice), and like almost anywhere else, boxes full of Lego bricks to let creativity run wild.

There are a total of 68 attractions in the park. A third of the 57 million Lego pieces made for artistic figures can be found in Miniland, right in the center of the facility. They are a minor highlight for us – perhaps because you can really slow down here.

The fascinating cities and landscapes of Europe have been faithfully reproduced here at 1:20 scale, reminiscent of the Swissminiatur open-air museum in Melide TI. Venice, the Netherlands, Switzerland or just the port of Hamburg – love is everywhere in the details. And because trains, cars, cable cars and ships run too, you can’t get enough of everything, even as a parent.

“How many more sleeps?”

We keep walking around the park, sometimes there is movement, sometimes it’s quieter. The rides stop at 5 pm – but there is still an hour before the park closes. Our son still plays in the playgrounds. And of course she’s dying to have something at one of the many park shops. Finally, he gets a fire sword (“Only available here!”) and a Lego building set (“I absolutely must have this!”) from Ninja Kai, who rides a dragon.

At this point, it is worth mentioning that if there are parents who managed to get out of the park without buying any commercial products, they also deserve a medal of honor. But it should be a reminder.

The night in the pirate hotel is wonderful, we are very tired and we all fall asleep quickly. The next morning we enjoy a rich breakfast, visit the park again, and happily return home. The next day our son asks: “How many more sleeps do we have before we get back to Legoland?”
