Will James Cameron film the new ‘Titanic’ drama after 26 years? The first stars would already be on board

When the deep-sea submersible Titan disappeared early on Sunday morning, June 18, 2023 while diving for the Titanic wreckage, it sparked a massive multi-day search—unsuccessful. Only rubble and human remains were found. Titan had already imploded on June 18, 2023, killing all five people on board.

James Cameron also commented on the failed search. After all, he’s not just a filmmaker, he’s a scuba diver himself and he’s been to the wreck of the Titanic. Now there is a message that he wants to film the new story. But behind the report you have to put a big question mark.

Series with Matt Damon & Kumail Nanjiani? This is the new message

The British tabloid reported that one of the world’s largest streaming services is already running a major series about the accident diving to the wreck of the Titanic. They don’t mention the streaming service, but of course Netflix immediately comes to mind. And James Cameron was the first choice for the director. In the end, according to a Sun source, he told the story of the sinking of the Titanic with so much emotion that it would be perfect to do the same for the Titanic drama.

Cameron should not only be given a large budget and the necessary time for this, but the director would already be looking for stars himself. So Matt Damon should play a leading role and would now work with James Cameron after once turning down “Avatar”. A second leading role would be “The Eternals” star Kumail Nanjiani.

Therefore, we do not really believe the report

However, we believe that this report should be treated with great caution. Although The Sun is one of Britain’s best known and most circulated newspapers, the tabloid is not very reliable. While they’ve had Hollywood scoops in the past, many more reports turned out to be ducks. And so much just doesn’t fit together here that we believe in a duck.

A streaming series like this would be a huge undertaking, but as we all know, James Cameron is in the middle of his countless Avatar sequels. It’s hard to imagine how he spent the time on the project – especially since a series about the real drama should be made very soon. His critical statements towards the Titan operators around the tragedy also make us wonder if he wants to tell such a story with “as much feeling” as he did with “Titanic”. And finally, the question: Which story?

As bitter as it sounds: We now know that unlike the final hours of the Titanic, no truly dramatic events took place aboard the Titan. For us as the public, it seemed for a long time during the search that the five men down there were slowly running out of time. That would have been a dramatic story. But today we know (as James Cameron suspected, by the way) that the submarine imploded instantly, killing the occupants instantly. There was no drama on board. Of course you can make a series about the search, but the “Titanic” equation of the Sun does not hold at all.

James Cameron was supposed to be filming the new Titanic drama, but we don’t really believe it.
