Ryan Gosling began his career on Disney Channel’s The All New Mickey Mouse Club. Meanwhile, however, we associate the actor with completely different performances, because his work is peppered with great films: “Like a Single Day”, “Half Nelson”, “Drive”, “Crazy, Stupid, Love”, “The Big Short”, “The Nice Guys” or “Barbie”.
In the series field, Ryan Gosling was also active in the 1990s, participating in such formats as “Goosebumps – The Hour of the Spirits”, “PSI Factor – It Happens Every Day”, “Young Hercules” or “Amanda and Betsy” . However, the really big hit is missing here – Gosling auditioned for a real cult series: “Gilmore Girls“.
Ryan Gosling in Gilmore Girls?!
Gilmore Girls follows single mother Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and her teenage daughter Rory (Alexis Bledel). They live in a quaint town called Stars Hollow and share a very special mother-daughter bond that has made the show so popular for seven seasons. As casting director Jami Rudofsky explained, Ryan Gosling would play a supporting role on the show:
“When I was a very small casting person, I cast an independent film with no budget. This man, Ryan Gosling, came in. He was late and I rolled my eyes because he was late and he was blonde. I thought he was acting, but what I didn’t know was that he was acting. He does the auditions and it was one of the most amazing auditions I’ve ever seen.”
As Rudofsky revealed at a fan festival, Gosling made such an impression that she wanted the young actor on Gilmore Girls as well: “I had him in mind and couldn’t wait for the guys from Gilmore Girls to meet him. And I praised him. I said, guys, he’s the best actor. I’m telling you, he’s incredible!”
Despite all the early praise, Ryan Gosling didn’t really land a supporting role in Gilmore Girls: “He came in, it was a football figure, I think. I don’t even remember. He auditioned and somehow it didn’t go well. Amy [Sherman-Palladino, die kreative Kraft hinter Gilmore Girls] just said, “Really, Jami?”.
