Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion), Hawk Girl (Isabela Merced), Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi) and Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan), plus possibly some members of the Authority, as well as Lex Luthor and other undisclosed villains and the obligatory Superman Supporting Characters Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) and Jimmy Olsen: “Superman: Legacy“ already has a very large ensemble of characters – and it wasn’t even the complete cast around the protagonist David Korenswet announced.
There are already concerns in DC fan circles that the movie might get too crowded – and director James Gunn repeats the (alleged) mistakes of the past. But the director and screenwriter, who is very active on social media as usual, immediately calmed fans’ concerns:
Should “Superman: Legacy” Prep Other DC Movies?
One concern is that characters like Green Lantern or Hawkgirl will only appear in “Superman: Legacy” as the next projects in the new DC Universe (DCU) will be prepared directly with them – such as “Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice”. should at least partially prepare “Justice League”, which was often criticized. Gunn’s answer:
“I have never used a film to prepare another film. The characters are there because they help tell Superman’s story better, not so that we can set up other franchise projects. Superman and Lois are clearly the protagonists.”
That is not entirely true, because in “Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3” a spin-off movie with Star-Lord is very clearly being prepared. Still, Gunn’s answer shows that he is aware of the problem.
Superman: A man of two worlds
In other comments on Twitter and Threads, Gunn stressed that he always puts the story first and that all these characters fit into the story. The DCU is a world where superheroes exist and have existed for a while, Gunn said. So, logically, Green Lantern and company are part of Superman’s life, just as Lois and Jimmy are another part.
“Superman is a man who lives in two worlds,” Gunn explained elsewhere. “How can I tell a complete Clark/Superman story without covering all aspects of his life?”
