Unfortunately, it’s now almost a daily occurrence for Netflix to drop popular shows. Nevertheless, these unexpected deletions hurt, especially when the plot isn’t fully told or the last season even ended on a cliffhanger. Now three Spanish series have been hit, which were quite convincing when they came out on Netflix and in some cases even had top ratings.
Besides the sci-fi production”Welcome to Eden“also applies”Sky High: The Series‘, the sequel to the popular Netflix thriller ‘Sky High’ and ‘Each time we fell in love“.
“Welcome to Eden”: an unsatisfactory ending
In particular, the cancellation of “Welcome to Eden” after only two seasons should come as a shock to fans. After all, the opening season ranked 10th in the group of the most watched non-English-language series in 2022. And the second season, which was released only on April 21, 2023, was very popular in Germany and rose to the top 3 in the first week of the German Netflix charts.
To make matters worse, the show ended on a huge cliffhanger that now (probably) goes unanswered. In addition, the fate of many characters remains open: has Astrid (Amaia Salamanca) really made contact with an alien life form? Can Bel (Begoña Vargas) and Zoa (Amaia Aberasturi) escape execution? “Welcome to Eden” ends really unsatisfactory.
The other deductions are also surprising
And the other Netflix cancellations should also frown the fans. The sequel to a Spanish hit thriller, Sky-High: The Series, has been canceled. This was about the wife (Asia Ortega) of a deceased gang boss who decides to take over her husband’s inheritance in order to maintain her own independence.
At the time, the gangster thriller “Sky High” rode the wave of success of Spanish Netflix productions such as “Money Heist” and was able to enter the Netflix top 10 most viewed content right from the start. The spin-off got off to a similarly good start, catapulting itself to number two on the charts within a few days. But good reviews aren’t everything for the streaming provider with the red N…
The first season of “Every Time We Fell in Love” also immediately made the top 10, but there will not be a second season. The eight-part romantic series follows the turbulent relationship between Irene (Georgina Amorós) and Julio (Franco Masini). The special thing: the time told extended over a period of twenty years. Similar to “Welcome to Eden,” the open ending is likely to give some viewers a stomach ache.
You can currently stream all those series on Netflix. It is up to you whether this is still worth it given the certain deductions. In any case, it seems that the streaming giant is now also thinking about which formats have a future in Spain, one of the most productive and profitable countries for the platform. Simple card placement is no longer a guarantee for renewal.
