Meteorism especially bothers women: when there is too much air in the stomach

Typically, the small belly expands during the day and flattens out during the night. If you don’t suffer from irritable bowel syndrome or lactose or fructose intolerance, or severe stress (affecting the stomach), bloating is a relatively normal phenomenon: there is too much air in the stomach. This occurs during the digestion process, but is also ingested, for example, with carbonated drinks or when eating fast food. Food itself also contains air, and about three liters of air enter the stomach each day.

Bloating during periods or menopause

Digestive problems affect women twice as often as men, which has been proven by numerous studies. The cause of digestive problems is closely linked to fluctuations in a woman’s hormonal balance. Many women are familiar with sweet, salty and fatty cravings, a typical sign of the so-called premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and this can lead to bloating. Also D.Progesterone makes the intestines heavy. Digestion slows down, leading to constipation and bloating. Between the ages of 45 and 55, most women enter menopause. Falling estrogen levels can cause gastrointestinal problems. Also, metabolism can change, many women gain weight at this stage of life.

Some foods are harmful to digestion.

There are several reasons that support the development of a bloated stomach. In part, bloating is a result of eating desirable high-fiber foods. Legumes, all kinds of cabbage, whole grain products and raw foods, as well as high protein foods are known to cause gas. The effect can be reduced by adding ginger, cumin, anise and coriander.

But high-fat foods with chemical additives, such as fast food, sausage or cheese with a fat content of more than 45 percent, support a bloated stomach, as well as white flour and sugar. If such food is also consumed quickly, the formation of air in the intestine is programmed. They also prefer coffee, alcohol, cola and black tea. You should still drink a lot, because the body needs fluid to break down food. Fennel or chamomile tea would be best, unfortunately most people don’t like it.

It has long been known that exercise helps against too much air in the stomach. A “digestive walk” after the meal was mandatory.
