With Peterli, you can turn a boring meal into a vitamin-rich flavor. We count four species in this country:
• Leaf parsley
• Root parsley
• Parsley, curled or curled with moss
• Japanese Parsley
Japanese parsley is much softer than regular parsley. Visually delicate and nearly identical in terms of growth requirements, their aroma is more reminiscent of celery and angelica. Leaf parsley is more traditional. There are the curly ones and the smooth-leaved ones, the flat-leaved one a little more aromatic.
If you want to grow your own parsley, you should know that the plant is biennial. Roots and rosettes of leaves are formed in the first year, peduncles up to 60 cm high in the following summer. When the seeds from the yellow umbrellas ripen, only a few weak leaves regrow.
The location of parsley can be sunny to part shade. If the soil is rich in nutrients, permeable and ideally enriched with compost and moist enough, you will have a good harvest.
Leaf parsley can be planted until mid-March and subsequent plantings can be used to fill in the harvested areas. With root parsley, you should wait a little longer – the soil in the second half of April is ideal for planting.
If you want to make a bed of parsley, you can mix your seeds with radish seeds because they germinate much faster than parsley, which takes four weeks to germinate. That way, you won’t lose sight of your parsley. The plant also grows particularly well in mixed cultures, as well as chard, spinach and tomatoes.
Roots can be dug and covered with sand in late autumn. Packed this way, they’ll last quite a long time in a sheltered gazebo or cool cellar.
The following applies when watering parsley: regularly, but in small quantities. It is best to use rainwater by wetting the leaves as little as possible and avoiding waterlogging in well-drained soil. Potted parsley often dies from improper watering. It’s either getting too little or too much water. Carefully check that the pot or window box has holes large enough for water to flow through.
Both seeds and plants should be able to grow in loose, weed-free soil and should be kept sufficiently moist at all times. The Peterlian does not tolerate flooding at all.
Parsley, planted at the end of the year, stays green throughout the winter. If the plant is outdoors, it should be covered during the winter months.
Both the leaves and roots of parsley can be used. The leaves and roots of the plant are rich in vitamins A, B and C, iron, potassium and essential oil. New, fresh leaves can always be harvested from vigorous plants that can be well frozen. Root pieces can be frozen or thoroughly dried.
