Food for healthy skin and hair

Skin and hair play a key role in well-being. The first is the largest organ in the body and the main barrier against pathogens in the environment. Meanwhile, the hair protects against ultraviolet radiation. But what to do to keep them healthy.

First of all, it should be emphasized that diet, age and environmental conditions can affect both. While there are factors that cannot be controlled, such as aging or the weather, they can also be mindful of what they eat.

People with skin ia beautiful hair strive to have healthy habits on a daily basis, says beautician Laura Chacon-Garbato.

There are nutrients like protein, antioxidants, vitamins and collagen that can improve your health.

For this reason, Chacon-Garbato suggests consuming certain foods to repair cells.

proteins

It is the main material used for “replacement” dead or worn out cells. Muscles, hair, nails, skin and eyes are made of protein. Include chicken, meat, fish, soy and protein shakes in your diet, which are also excellent options for protein intake.

collagen

In the aging process, which begins to mid 20s, the skin suffers from a progressive loss of hydration and becomes increasingly dry. When this happens, the dermis becomes thinner, connective tissue loses strength and elasticity, and wrinkles and bags begin to appear.

Collagen in the human body makes up between 25% and 30% of total proteins, of which about 75% is collagen from the skin and is responsible for the firm structure of the dermis.

Some foods rich in collagen are green leafy vegetables, red vegetables and yellow fruits, citrus fruits, fish, chicken, egg whites, soybeans, beans and white tea.

vitamins

Vitamins with their antioxidant properties, such as vitamins A, C and E, they are also essential.

I can consume fruits and vegetables rich in pigments yellow and red are a good source of vitamin A, as well as green leafy vegetables because they contain vitamin A.

While the recommended foods for vitamin C consumption are citrus fruits, such as oranges and lemons, peppers, strawberries and broccoli.

Meanwhile, sunflower seeds, almonds, peanuts, pumpkins and red peppers are excellent sources of vitamin E, says Laura Chacon-Garbato, who is also director of Herbalife’s Global Nutrition Training.

Hydration

It is between 25% and 30% of skin tissue formed from water, for this reason, it is important to drink plenty of fluids to prevent drying and dehydration of the skin.
