New on Netflix: Jim Carrey in one of his best roles and Marvel star Chadwick Boseman in a gripping sports drama

Netflix ensures a fresh program through regular rotation: old titles are thrown away and new films and series find their way to the streaming provider. In addition to the (usually) permanently available own productions, titles with a license for a certain period are also offered for streaming.

For example, starting today, you can look out for Jim Carrey in “The Mask,” who embodies a cartoonish, over-the-top superhero. In addition, there is also more serious entertainment with “42”: in the sports drama, Marvel star Chadwick Boseman, who died in 2020, fights for equality in the American baseball league. Fans of turbulent action will get their money’s worth with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who pose as a married couple in “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” and deliver a fierce war of the roses.

These movie highlights are now available on Netflix

“The mask”: An ancient artifact transforms shy bank clerk Stanley Ipkiss (Jim Carrey) into a superhero that takes some getting used to. In a bright yellow suit, the green-faced anti-hero causes all kinds of mayhem, incidentally rescuing Cameron Diaz from the clutches of an underworld leader. The quirky and at times very cartoonish humor, perfectly tailored to Jim Carrey, makes this 1990s film a must-see superhero comedy to this day.

“42 – The True Story of a Sports Legend”: This emotionally gripping sports drama tells the fact-based story of the first black professional baseball player to play in the American MLB professional league. Director Brian Helgeland (“A Knight’s Tale”) stages the struggle for equality as a moving portrait of a new America. Marvel fans should definitely give the movie a shot as it’s one of Black Panther’s Chadwick Boseman’s best acting performances.

“Mr. & Mrs. Smith”: If you’re more in the mood for light fare, you might be happy with “Mr. & Mrs. Smith”. In this entertaining mix of action, romance and comedy, superstars Brad Pitt (“Babylon”) and Angelina Jolie (“Maleficent”) deliver a real bullet hail war as secret agent couple within their own four walls. Even though “Edge Of Tomorrow” director Doug Liman’s genre mix has some weaknesses and doesn’t really want to ignite every joke, the film still offers pleasant and easily digestible entertainment.
