sir Anthony Hopkins as a robot? Yes, at least as his voice – and you can now see what this robot looks like in new photos from the sci-fi adventure “Rebel Moon” that exclusively issued.
Rebel Moon director Zack Snyder originally pitched the idea for his dark, interstellar Rebel adventure as a Star Wars spin-off. Nothing came of it, but Netflix struck and turned the script idea into a Netflix original: “Rebel Moon” will launch exclusively on the streaming service on December 22, 2023. And that’s just the beginning: “Rebel Moon” will be (at least) two parts. It is not yet known when “Rebel Moon 2” will follow.
The behind-the-scenes images, posters and videos we’ve seen of Rebel Moon so far definitely have us looking forward to a visually stunning epic – while Dune 2 might just be the undisputed sci-fi highlight of the year. chances are “Rebel Moon” will be able to wear this crown in streaming. Only the first real trailer is still missing, but that should only be a matter of time.
Anthony Hopkins plays robots on a journey of self-discovery
Along with the photos that published as part of his cover story for “Rebel Moon”, there’s now some more information about Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins’ character – whose robot Jimmy is clearly much more than just a machine: “To me, he’s a real one . He’s on a journey of self-discovery,” Snyder said.
In Rebel Moon, the universe is controlled by the corrupt government of the Mother World under the reign of Emperor Balisarius. As the Mother World’s army sets sail for the moon Veldt to conquer it and harness its resources, Kora (Sofia Boutella), a former Imperial loyalist now seeking redemption for her past deeds, joins the fray. She collects warriors from all over the galaxy with whom she plans to face Balisarius.
Robot Jimmy is initially an Empire droid who is deployed on Veldt to do the dirty work there. The one in the article However, the aforementioned “significant change” Jimmy would undergo during “Rebel Moon: Part One” and “Rebel Moon: Part Two” strongly suggests that the robot may not remain too loyal to the Empire…
“Rebel Moon” is coming to Netflix in several versions
Incidentally, friends of the somewhat harder sci-fi gang can be happy: “Rebel Moon” will be released on Netflix in several cut versions – in a softened version, and in an adult version, in which it should actually be much darker and more brutal.
The Rebel Moon cast has grown beyond Anthony Hopkins and Sofia Boutella to now include Djimon Hounsou, Charlie Hunnam, Jena Malone, Ed Skrein, Bae Doona, Ray Fisher and Michiel Huisman.
