You should pay attention to this when buying bread.

Low-carb diets can help you lose weight fast. Many experts have agreed for years that it makes sense to reduce carbohydrates in the diet and eat more protein.

Is bread healthy or unhealthy?

There are different reference points for evaluation:

Example: If 50 g of carbohydrates are consumed from white bread, the body will react differently than if 50 g of carbohydrates are consumed from wholemeal bread. This affects the rise and course of the blood sugar curve and therefore the need for insulin.

What happens after eating white bread?

White flour can be broken down and digested very quickly by the body. Since the dietary fiber content is almost zero and the sugar molecules are in an easily digestible form, the rise in blood sugar is greater even after consuming pure sugar. The high rise in blood sugar is prevented by the body’s release of the hormone insulin. In this way, sugar is removed from the blood in the fastest way and stored as sugar reserves in muscle and liver cells. If these tanks are full, oil is formed. In addition, white flour is rapidly metabolized. This causes blood sugar to drop rapidly again, and low blood sugar levels trigger hunger.

A completely different course of blood sugar is triggered by the consumption of whole wheat bread and even rye bread. The dietary fiber content of dark flours slows the rise in blood sugar, providing longer satiety and less fat formation.

Should you avoid white bread?

No, of course you don’t need to be completely without white bread. But it’s worth avoiding greasy white breads like buttered knit bread, croissants (wholegrain croissants as well!), light olive bread or brioche. Roll, light burli, baguette, ciabatta etc. Other light breads cannot be made healthier, but the negative GI curve can be improved with a simple trick. If you eat enough vegetables or salads before or with a white flour product, the carbohydrate digestion of white bread slows down. Dietary fiber from vegetables then takes over the fiber from the missing whole grain product. But they are not a substitute for the healthy ingredients in whole grain cereals. The high calorie content of white flour products cannot be reduced by this method either.

And with all these facts, it’s also important to consider how the bread is stuffed or spread. Because the surface is often the factor that carries the most weight.
