Complications of diabetes and obesity

Today, 30% of patients delay the start of insulin treatment, which has led to the facilitation of their access and the promotion of cultural change, according to international health and pharmaceutical organizations.

Obesity is associated with more than 200 complicationsincluding heart disease, diabetes and various types of cancer.

“Our heritage has enabled us to understand the unmet needs of patients living with diabetes, obesity and other serious chronic diseases,” said Lars Fruergaard Jørgensen, CEO and Global President of Novo Nordisk.

“Currently, we know that 30% of patients delay starting insulin treatment, which prompted us to facilitate their access and promote cultural change,” he added during a virtual press conference.

Research

The pharmaceutical company is in various stages of research:

Obesity: CagriSema, a molecule that has the potential to reduce body weight better than Semaglutide, while addressing several cardiovascular risk factors.

Cardiovascular diseases: Siltivekimab, studies have shown that inflammation plays a key role in atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

Growth hormone deficiency: Somapacitan, this revolutionary treatment allows it to be administered once a week, thus avoiding the need for up to 313 injections per year.
