Stranger Things is primarily the baby of brothers Matt and Ross Duffer. Not only did the duo come up with the retro mystery hit, but they also directed 19 of the 34 episodes themselves. So if they let someone else sit in the director’s chair, it means something.
Besides “Deadpool 3” creator Shawn Levy, who is also the third main driving force behind the series and has managed to make eight episodes so far, only four other people have received this honor for one or two episodes each: Andrew Stanton (“Finding Nemo”), Uta Briesewitz (“Orange Is The New Black”), Nimród Antal (“Predators”) and Rebecca Thomas (“Archive 81”).
But now another name joins this illustrious group: 10 Cloverfield Lane and Prey Director Dan Trachtenberg will perform an episode of the final fifth season of Stranger Things. Netflix has now announced this itself. Along with the recent cast announcement, the past season can now come up with two top class newcomers in a short space of time. It was recently announced that “Terminator” icon Linda Hamilton will play an as yet unknown role in the new episodes.
Dan Trachtenberg: High voltage guarantor
At the start of his career, Dan Trachtenberg mainly recommended himself in Hollywood with his short film “No Escape” until the video game hit “Portal” and then directly with the loose “Cloverfield” sequel “10 Cloverfield Lane” that caused a stir out of nowhere . The science fiction horror drama captivated above all with its oppressive room game atmosphere and brought Trachtenberg exciting further projects. His most recent directorial work is Prey, the entertaining and gory prequel to the monster action cult Predator.
But Trachtenberg has also been able to gain relevant experience in series production. After directing an episode of the abysmal dystopian anthology “Black Mirror” (Season 3, Episode 2: “Hunger for Experience”), he even directed the pilot episode of the acclaimed “The Boys,” giving a decisive shape the entire style of Amazon’s bitterly evil superhero parody with.
His work on “Stranger Things 5” won’t have quite as much scope now – after all, the Duffers have largely taken on this task for four seasons – but still he will certainly still have the chance to make the final of the popular Netflix success with his skills, at least probably with his talent for creating very exciting nail-biting scenes, as we know from “Prey” and especially “10 Cloverfield Lane enrich.
What awaits us in “Stranger Things 5”?
What exactly awaits us in the big “Stranger Things” finale is still unclear. Even after defeating the sinister Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower), Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and her friends’ battle against the evil forces of the Upside Down isn’t over. And so the troop must stand one last time to eliminate the danger once and for all.
It is still unclear when we will see all this. The final work on the scripts is currently on hold due to the ongoing writers’ strike in Hollywood. As Dan Trachtenberg’s signing shows, everything is slowly being put into place for the shoot. But even if this could start soon, we don’t expect a release on Netflix until the end of 2024 at the earliest.
