Comics fans are fascinated with what new DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran are up to with their overhauled DCU. The question of who will take on the iconic lead roles in the new big screen Superman adventure “Superman: Legacy” has been on the minds of many. Recently, we’ve come very close to an answer here, as some favorites have already emerged from test shots.
But now we finally have certainty about who actually won the race: David Korenswet will embody the title hero or his middle-class alter ego Clark Kent in “Superman: Legacy”, Rachel Brosnahan takes on the role of the exceptional reporter and Clark’s great love Lois Lane. American trade journals report this unanimously.
Amazon outperforms Netflix star
Although it looked very likely that Corenswet, known for films such as ‘Pearl’ and ‘Look Both Ways’, would make the race for the coveted Superman role, the signing of Brosnahan still comes as a small surprise. So it actually seemed pretty certain that Emma Mackey, who was celebrated with the Netflix hit “Sex Education” and can be seen in “Barbie”, would get the role of Lois Lane.
Now she is surpassed by Rachel Brosnahan, the series fans mainly from the first three seasons of “House Of Cards” and of course as the Golden Globe winning lead actress of the critically acclaimed and recently ended Amazon series “The Marvelous Mrs.Maisel”.
The role of Lex Luthor is still open
So while it’s now finally clear who, after Henry Cavill, will be next in the Superman cape on the big screen and who he’ll fall in love with, it’s still unclear who his nemesis Lex Luthor will be. Ex-X-Man Nicholas Hoult, who also volunteered for test shots for the Superman party, as well as brothers Alexander Skarsgård (“Legend Of Tarzan”) and Bill Skarsgård (“ES”) are likely to be considered promising candidates here. Even now, a decision must be made quickly.
Written and directed by James Gunn, “Superman: LegacyThen on July 10, 2025. The film will therefore usher in the first chapter of the new DCU on the big screen, after it has already been and is being prepared by the last films of the previous DC film era (“The Flash”, “Aquaman 2” and “Blue Beetle” ) the 2024 series “Creature Commandos” and “Waller” will belong to the DCU.
