Swiss mountain scenery is not only very popular for hiking. You can also go on excursions by mountain bike, where neither fun and adrenaline nor breathtaking views are neglected. The Blick community revealed to us their favorite routes last year.
«The Five Lakes Tour in Zermatt is beautiful and unique. There is nothing more beautiful in the world », exclaims Blick reader Pascal Julen. There’s more to see than the Matterhorn on this themed trail in the popular mountains of Zermatt. As the name suggests, the trip takes you beyond five impressive mountain lakes: Stellisee, Grindjisee, Grünsee, Moosjisee and Leisee. The length of the tour is 9.8 kilometers.
At around 40 kilometers long, the Alps Epic Trail in Davos is the longest single trail in Switzerland. It even made it to the International Mountain Bike Association’s Epic Rides list. The tour starts at Jakobshorn, where you first go to Sertig-Dörfli. From here, only a short climb separates you from a single trail. “There’s probably no other place where you can have so much more fun on a single track,” says Blick reader Roger Manser.
Alps Epic Trail is currently closed. Here you will find up-to-date information about this single track.
“The Trans-Altarezia Cycling from Samnaun to Tirano was the highlight of this summer,” writes Blick reader Florian Goldinger. Culturally, this route is particularly exciting because you pass through three language regions and three countries. “Sports-wise, it was really challenging for me. Very steep slopes and sporty trails down to the valley. The highlight is the dizzying crossing of the Val d’Uina Gorge.»
This tip comes from Blick reader Peter Hirt. Maderanertal has a lot to offer: from splashing waterfalls and idyllic lakes to fun one-way trails. Switzerland Mobil’s official route is 27 kilometers long and takes a steep path from Amsteg to Bristen. Through the forest and past streams, the destination on the way is SAC Hotel Maderanertal, where you can enjoy the wonderful view of the valley. On the way back, a single trail leads back to Amsteg.
Blick reader Björn Bigger also explains his favorite mountain bike route: “A really great route is from Buchs in the direction of Oberschan and then up to Palfris. There is a great view of Sarganserland, Seeztal and Walensee. Then continue in the direction of Sennis with a descent into Berschis. When you arrive in the valley, you go along Seeztal to Buchs.» The expectations are definitely worth it for him. They’ll also be great places to stop for drinks or recharge your e-bike.
When it comes to mountain biking, the Jungfrau region leads the way, according to Blick reader Joe Smith. For example, the Mountain View Trail, one of the most impressive bike paths in the Bernese Oberland, is located here. On this varied tour over the hill and valley, you will have great views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.
Route tip “Pontresina via Bernina to Poschiavo” from Blick reader Erich Krummenacher. Numerous natural sights await you on this route, such as the Cascada da Bernina mountain river and numerous single-track entertainment. The tour takes about four hours and is of medium difficulty.
