Apple and Google charge pretty low

Only seven apps are “good training partners”. In general, test results range from “very good” to “unsatisfactory”. That’s why the two Garmin Connect apps for Android and iOS top the overall ranking. The test winners also convinced the testers during cycling training. The other five apps received a “good” rating.

But according to Stiftung Warentest, Apple and Google miss the top group and perform quite poorly with an “adequate” overall rating. Four free fitness apps failed completely. According to the test, they only register a few vital signs or don’t do much as a training companion.

Fitness apps display and evaluate activity, health, and exercise data. Ideally, they offer training support such as planning, motivation or recommendations for strength training. A smartwatch is required for use, it records the workouts and vital data of athletes. All providers except Apple offer their apps for Android and iOS.
