“Indiana Jones” and “Lord of the Rings” Ghost Hunt: Trailer for the Serial Killer Horror “The Gates”

In the trailer, director Stephen Hall’s (“Night Shift”) “The Gates” presents itself as a seemingly eerie mix of historical serial killer hunting and ghost horror. What is striking is that while this is exactly the right time and place – London, late 19th century – the story for once apparently does not revolve around Jack The Ripper, the most infamous killer of our time. Hopefully, we’ll soon be able to find out for ourselves whether the character might still play a role in the finished film, or whether the parallel anchoring in time and place is purely coincidental.

In North America, the Irish-British co-production will launch on video-on-demand on June 27, 2023. Unfortunately, when and how we can see “The Gates” in this country has not yet been announced.

Starring Michael Yare (“The Morgan Project”), Elena Delia (“The Alienist”), Richard Brake, who you’ve already seen in creepy roles in “31 – A Rob Zombie Film” and most recently “Barbarians”, as well as “Lord of the Rings Chief Dwarf John Rhys-Davies.

From June 29, 2023, you can also experience Rhys-Davies in one of the most highly anticipated cinematic spectacles of the year. Because then he reprises his role alongside Harrison Ford as the old friend of the titular hero from the first two adventures in “Indiana Jones and the Wheel of Destiny”. Incidentally, we could already see the film during its world premiere in Cannes. You can read our detailed MOVIE STARTS review here:

“The Gates”: That’s the story

London in 1890: the apparently insane William Colcott (Richard Brake) awaits execution in the city’s largest prison. Due to the brutality of his actions, this must be carried out with a new executioner tool that has only just been invented in the US: the electric chair. Before the sentence can be carried out, Colcott puts a curse on the entire courthouse and everyone inside. However, no one pays much attention to the man’s apparently confused words.

Only when official corpse photographer Frederick Ladbroke (John Rhys-Davies) and his young assistant Emma Wickes (Elena Delia) arrive does this change. The duo’s footage shows signs that Colcott’s ghost has survived and may be preparing to carry out his chilling threats. At Ladbroke’s urging, Lucian Abberton (Michael Yare), a supernatural expert, is hired who indeed has some bad news…
