“Tyler Rake: Extraction 2” has been available to stream on Netflix since Friday, and many of you should already be enjoying the brutal sequel – especially with a sensational 21-minute action sequence with no visible cut that begins like a prison break. while a car chase continues and culminates in a wild battle on a train of helicopters.
In our in-depth interview with director Sam Hargrave, we naturally talked about this scene and his staging. Included the filmmaker told us that “Children of men‘ by Gravity director Alfonso Cuarón made a huge impression on him. The ‘long shots’ in this film are exemplary because they ‘really succeed in pulling the audience into the experience’.
“Children Of Men” and “Extraction 2”: both immersive movie experiences
You’re so directly involved: “For example, if a character has trouble breathing, I feel the same way as a viewer.” That’s exactly what he wanted to achieve with “Extraction 2”. The audience should “not just watch from a distant perspective”. He wanted to “provide an immersive experience”. It’s about grabbing the audience by the hair and pulling it into the movie. I want them to think, hey, that’s what it feels like to experience these crazy action sequences in real time!”
When my colleague Daniel Fabian recently recommended “one of the best sci-fi films of the last 20 years” for a TV show of “Children Of Men”, the qualities Sam Hargrave now mentioned were also among the points he emphasized. So he explained that with Cuarón’s film you are “in the middle”. The mix of dynamic hand-held camera shots and long, uncut shots creates “an incredible intensity that allows you to fully immerse yourself in the story.”
“Tyler Rake: Extraction 2“you can currently stream on Netflix,”Children of men‘ is unfortunately not currently available on a streaming subscription.
