Eight years have passed since Sausage Party, probably the dirtiest animated film of all time, hit theaters. And yes: Animated film and the word “dirty” can actually go hand in hand. In the US, the comedy is approved for adults (the so-called R rating), in Germany you were only allowed to enter the cinemas at the age of 16. The reason: a lot of jokes that take place well below the belt – in the truest sense of the word.
The film, which was about horny groceries coming to life in the supermarket, not only redefined the term “food porn” but was also quite successful. The $19 million Sausage Party grossed $141 million, toppling South Park, the highest-grossing R-rated animated film to date. No wonder then that the concept of animation for adults has been retained. With ‘Fixed’ a worthy successor to ‘Sausage Party’ is now in the starting blocks, which also comes from Sony. But what kind of movie is this?
This is fixed
The focus of “Fixed” is on the family dog, Bull, who is about to be neutered and wants to have one last cool night with his friends Rocco, Fetch and Lucky before the big surgery. And then there’s the neighbour’s dog Honey, with whom Bull has had a long-standing crush. Of course, the question also arises: will Bull reproduce on this last night, which he still has as a fertile dog? He definitely doesn’t have much time to wrap Honey around the dog’s paw…
“Fixed” was announced by Sony in 2020, but since then the adult animated movie has been quiet. Now it’s clear which stars will lend the fur noses their voices and that really gets things moving. Head dog Bull is voiced by Modern Family cast member Adam Devine, and Bull’s love interest Honey is voiced by Kathryn Hahn (“Bad Moms”, “WandaVision”). “Luther” star Idris Elba plays Rocco, Fred Armisen (“Wednesday”) Fetch and Bobby Moynihan (“Saturday Live Night”) Lucky. Other four-legged friends are voiced by Beck Bennett (“Hamster and Gretel”), River Gallo (“Love, Victor”), and Michelle Buteau (“First Wives Club”).
When Genndy Tartakovsky (“Hotel Transylvania 4”) “Fixed” is hitting theaters, and whether it actually gets as messy as the premise and rating promises remains to be seen. You don’t have to wait long for sassy, low dogs on the big screen, though. “Doggy Style” hits theaters August 31, 2023 – however, the dogs in the comedy are real, not animated. But see for yourself:
