British actress Glenda Jackson has died

British actress and former Labor politician Glenda Jackson has died aged 87 at her home in Blackheath, south London, her agent Lioner Larner said.

Interpreter, awarded with two Hollywood Academy Oscars, She passed away after a “short illness” surrounded by her family, Larner added.

Jackson, born on May 9, 1936 In the town of Birkenhead, in the north-west of England, he recently finished shooting the film “The Great Escaper”, in which he acted together with the British actor Michael Caine.

The British star won Oscar for Best Actress in 1970 for “Women in Love” and three years later he won another statuette for “A touch of class”, although he chose not to attend the ceremony on either occasion.

“Glenda Jackson, actress and politician, winner of two awards from Academypassed away peacefully at his home in Blackheath, London this morning after a short illness with his family by his side,” his agent said in a statement.

Despite a successful career that included two awards “Emmy” and “Tony”Jackson admitted at the time that he never had a particular interest in the glamor that surrounded the world of cinema.

After a difficult childhood, Jackson recognized in his own time that he decided to dedicate himself success after school failure, that she had no choice but to start working at the age of 16.

Despite the success of her acting career, which allowed her to act Queen Elizabeth I in the BBC miniseries, Jackson gave up acting to devote himself to politics.

In 1992, she was elected as an MP in the London constituency Hampstead & Highgate and he became head of transport between 1997 and 1999, in former Prime Minister Tony Blair’s first term (in power between 1997 and 2007).

Jackson just finished filming “The Great Escape” alongside Michael Caine, with whom he last appeared 48 years ago in “The Romantic Englishwoman”.

His new film tells the story, inspired by true events, about a veteran World War II who escaped from his nursing home in Hove, East Sussex (southeast England), to attend the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the landings in France.
