Aardman Animation’s clay figures delight young and old. For example, the short episodes of “Shaun the Sheep” made it to “Show with the Mouse” and the long version of “Shaun” has already hit theaters. Wallace & Gromit won the 2006 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. And then, of course, there’s Chicken Run, which now has a late sequel – a very late sequel.
The sequel titled “Chicken Run 2: Dawn Of The Nugget‘ will be released on Netflix on December 15, 2023. For example, the film ends up directly on a streaming service instead of in the cinema, more than 20 years after the release of “Chicken Run”, which saw the light of day in 2000.
While Peter Lord and Nick Park directed Chicken Run, Chicken Run 2: Dawn Of The Nugget is now directed by Sam Fell (ParaNorman). If prominent speakers Star Wars Original: Thandiwe Newton (Solo: A Star Wars Story), Bella Ramsey (The Last Of Us), Zachary Levi (Shazam!), Imelda Staunton (Harry Potter), Jane Horrocks (‘Absolutely Fabulous’), and David Bradley (“Game of Thrones”).
“Chicken Run 2: Dawn Of The Nugget”: The chickens are running again
But it’s not just the voices of the stars, which is why you can look forward to the late sequel: of course, it’s mainly about the adventures of the crazy chickens, which we fell in love with in the first part – for the ” furios in In the FILMSTARTS review, we awarded 3.5 out of 5 possible stars to the plasticine figures staged in “Chicken Run”. And with most feathered creatures there is a reunion in the sequel, albeit partly with different speakers than in part 1:
After escaping from Tweedy’s farm, Ginger (voiced by Julia Sawalha in the first film, now Thandiwe Newton) lives the dream of freedom on a remote island with her flock of chickens. She even starts a family with Rocky (Zachary Levi, formerly Mel Gibson): with maid Molly (Bella Ramsey), Ginger’s happiness seems perfect. But then she receives a distress call from the mainland: unsuspecting chickens are still being threatened by humans there. Ginger and her team leave the safe island to help their fellow humans – and this time it’s up to them: don’t break out of the chicken coop, break in!
