More than 30 years after the end of the series: RTL brings your childhood memories back to life via AI (!).

Since the premiere of “Meister Eder and his Pumuckl” on German television in September 1982, the series about the cheeky red-haired goblin has enjoyed absolute cult status on television. For decades, the little troublemaker has been an integral part of German children’s bedrooms and played his pranks on television screens, theater and music stages and even in the cinema – there most recently in 2003 with “Pumuckl and his circus adventure”.

However, the series “Meister Eder und sein Pumuckl” is still cult and revered by the fans, in which Gustl Bayrhammer took on the role of the good-natured carpenter Meister Eder, who lovingly took care of his little house spirit, while actor Hans Clarin played the red-haired sassy bastard who lent his unmistakable voice. Now the series continues with “New Stories from Pumuckl” on RTL – and fans will soon be able to believe their ears, because Using AI technology, the voice of original Pumuckl speaker Hans Clarin is brought back to life, although he passed away in 2005.

The actor lent his voice to the clever goblin on television, radio and radio plays for nearly 40 years. However, from 2001 he could no longer speak for Pumuckl, because he contracted a vocal cord disease in 2001, which made him no longer want to subject his vocal cords to the strain of the Pumuckl synchronization.

“New Stories from Pumuckl”: continuation of the original series

The 13 episodes of the new series are offered in two language versions. On the one hand here is a comedian Maxi Schafroth (“The Pubertier – The Film”) becomes the new voice of the brutal riot goblin and in a second language version, his voice is transformed into the voice of original Pumuckl speaker Hans Clarin with the help of artificial intelligence.

“New Stories from Pumuckl” sees itself as a direct continuation of the original series. The plot begins almost 30 years after the stories of “Meister Eder and his Pumuckl” and – in the style of the last “Halloween” films – ignores much of the subsequent productions such as “Pumuckl’s Adventure” and “Pumuckl and his Circus “. Adventure”, probably also because they don’t enjoy such a high status with the fans.

You can read how successful the conversion ultimately was on RTL+, RTL and Super RTL at the end of 2023. Incidentally, the series will premiere on June 24, 2023 at the Children’s Film Festival in Munich.
