Aaron Eckhart most recently played him in “The Dark Knight”, before that Tommy Lee Jones already played the legendary role in “Batman Forever”. We’re talking about Harvey Dent aka Two-Face. Now the character is also being introduced to the “The Batman” universe with Robert Pattinson.
As usually well-connected insiders John Rocha and Jeff Sneider discuss in the new episode of their podcast The Hot Mic, casting for the role in the upcoming The Batman 2 (and possibly more) is in its final stages. According to Rocha, there are only two candidates left.
Josh Hartnett or Joel Edgerton as Harvey Dent?
Therefore the team around director Matt Reeves decides between Josh Hartnett And Joel Edgerton.
American Hartnett, born in 1978, attracted attention early in his career with Sofia Coppola’s “The Virgin Suicides”. He has also had other well-known roles in films such as “Black Hawk Down”, “Pearl Harbor” and “Sin City”. In recent years, the star of the “Penny Dreadful” series has not appeared in major Hollywood blockbusters. After starring in Guy Ritchie’s “Cash Truck” and “Operation Fortune”, he is now part of the cast of Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer”.
Born in Australia in 1974, Joel Edgerton probably first caught the attention of a wider audience with his role as Owen Lars in both “Star Wars: Episode II” and “Star Wars: Episode III”. He can also be seen in movies like “Black Mass”, “Warrior” or most recently “Thirteen Lives”. Most recently, he made an impression in Paul Schrader’s “The Master Gardener”, which has not yet been released in German cinemas.
Harvey Dent in The Batman 2, then Two-Face in The Batman 3?
According to the information in the podcast The famous comic book character would appear as Prosecutor Harvey Dent in “The Batman 2”. After the death of Gil Colson (Peter Sarsgaard) in “The Batman,” the sequel finally needs a new lead prosecutor. However, according to Rocha, that is possible he then becomes Two-Face towards the end of the movie and is thus positioned as a villain for “The Batman 3”.
The Joker is widely expected to become one of the main villains in The Batman 2, having been introduced in the first episode – played by Barry Keoghan. It also fits that Keoghan recently had to cancel a planned role as the villain in “Gladiator 2” – probably because the shooting overlaps with that of “The Batman 2”. Filming on the comedic sequel should also begin soon, if the current Hollywood writers’ strike doesn’t cause a delay.
Whether one of the two stars really becomes Harvey Dent, we will find out in the future. “The Batman2will hit theaters on October 2, 2025.
