There is usually a lot to see and explore on a walk. Adult walkers have no problem having fun, while kids struggle with boredom after a certain amount of time on a few hours of walking. Blick reveals eight games that are sure to turn out well on a walk and will rekindle their wanderlust.

“I’m packing my backpack…”

A well-known game that not only encourages concentration but is also great for fun, a walk with kids should not be missing. A set of words is formed by listing the things you put in your backpack. Each player whose turn it is must remember all the items listed so far and list a new item at the end of the word line. This game is especially fun on a nature walk, as you list things that caught your attention along the way.

If there’s one thing that instantly lifts the spirits of kids going for a walk, it’s a little competition. Set a category for it, such as special stones or four-leaf clovers. At the end of the walk, the person who collects the most items in the selected category wins. So all participants are busy along the way.

count steps

Something very simple that can rekindle your little ones’ wanderlust: counting steps. While classical step counting works for a short time as well, boredom can probably be bridged for longer with a little tweaking to the gameplay. For example, you can solve a task after 100 steps or give a gummy bear to children after 500 steps.

The beautiful surroundings are definitely one of the highlights of a hike. There is so much to explore in nature – in the air, in the water or on the ground. In this game you focus more on the surrounding landscape: a player starts and requests an object. The first to find the desired object wins.

If the walk still seems endless for kids, it helps if they concentrate on something completely different instead of the road. So why not use the gray cells and see who has the more appropriate answers? First of all, a category – for example countries, animals or fruits – is determined. Now the players take turns giving answers according to the category. No answer should be given twice and thought for too long. If you don’t follow these rules or can’t think of anything else, you lose.

Parents who want to make the walk more exciting for their children – on a birthday, for example – can try scavenger hunts. This requires a little more effort, as hiking and appropriate puzzles must be written first, but the finished scavenger hunt promises fun for the whole family.
