“Star Wars” star and “Iron Man” authors create Formula 1 series: that has never happened before

“One” is the name of the series, which includes “Rogue One” star Felicity Jones as lead actress and producer, as well as “Iron Man” authors Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby. The focus is to be on a fictional family-run Formula 1 team, making a tumultuous rise in the pinnacle of motorsport. But there is one peculiarity…

Than Formula 1 itself is involved in the project, which offers special opportunities. Because even though the series tells a scripted drama story, the real Formula 1 must also play a role. This is reported by the industry magazine the fictional story is mixed with the current real Formula 1 season 2023. Exactly what that will look like is not yet known. It is not known whether Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton or Nico Hülkenberg and their crews and team bosses suddenly appear in the series.

It is the very first time that Formula 1 opens up such possibilities in a fictional series and is even involved.

“One”: The goal is a global series

With filming around the real Formula 1 races, “One” is likely to be a huge project, especially a global project. After all, the races take place at the most diverse locations. Due to the worldwide popularity of the motorsport class, the aim is to also make the series available in parallel all over the world. Where this will happen is not yet known. With the success of ‘Drive To Survive’ and the collaboration that has already been established, streaming service Netflix would of course be a very conceivable home port.

Behind the project is ITV Studios, a company that has already launched many successful formats. Among other things, they already worked with Netflix on “Bodyguard”, which released the action thriller series outside of Great Britain.

In addition to “One”, there is also a Formula 1 movie starring Brad Pitt

Incidentally, “One” is currently not the only Formula 1 project in which the organizers of the motorsport races themselves are involved. Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski is currently making a feature film starring Brad Pitt and Swarm of Bees star Damson Idris.

This film was also partly shot around a real Formula 1 race (at Silverstone in July) – however, the real racing scenes are not used as is now the case with the “One” series. In addition to the public atmosphere and the crowds in the pit lane, additional racing scenes will be created here, for which vehicles have been adapted from Formula 2 and/or Formula 3 cars.
