Each cinematic universe brings its secret details, easter eggs and references. This not only affects the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but also, for example, the series “Star Wars”. But that’s not all: there are also one or two surprises to discover in the “The Fast And The Furious” franchise – and they go far beyond the fact that physical laws prefer to be unleashed.
For example, in “The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift” you can expect an Easter Egg for which you don’t need any particularly pronounced movie knowledge, but you do need a little understanding of racing. Because if you press pause in the fast-paced action spectacle at 44 minutes and 49 seconds, you discover a very special man: Keichi Tsuchiya.
Okay, let’s face it, you see two special men fishing. In the front of the shot is Kazutoshi Wakakura, the producer of The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift. In the man in the blue top behind him is Keiichi Tsuchiya. This is Japan’s legendary “Drift King”, who became known for his unconventional drifting maneuvers (e.g. during the 1996 Le Mans 24-hour race) and made the sport of drifting surprisingly popular worldwide. It was his driving style that made “Tokyo Drift” possible.
So if you know who looks briefly into the camera at 44 minutes and 49 seconds, you have to say that the people in charge of “Tokyo Drift” managed to come up with a very nice Easter egg here. Here, tribute is paid to the person who significantly initiated the action thriller.
