Spain is still the leader in terms of youth unemployment in the European Union

One out of four young Spaniards (1,763,000) was in unemployment 2013. A historical figure who did not repeat himself after the financial and debt crisis. Not even with the pandemic, which ended six consecutive years of decline, hitting the most vulnerable groups (younger workers, women and immigrants).

However, efforts to engage people aged 16 to 29 in labor market were not enough to stop being a red light of the European Union (EU). And that is that there is no other country in the bloc of twenty-seven with more young unemployed people than Spain (833,000 people). Almost two out of ten are national.

Even Greece, a country that has been bailed out three times, has lower youth unemployment than Spain (10.6%). The same happens with Portugal (6.8%) i Italy (7.4%).

The countries with the lowest youth unemployment are Czech Republic (2%), Germany (3.3%) i Bulgaria (3.3%).

In the entire EU, 4.48 million young people were unemployed in 2022 -6.3% of the population between the ages of 15 and 29-. This is the lowest figure since records exist (2009). Only in Cyprus, Latvia, Romania and Estonia did the number of young people without a job increase.
