A large employer condemns that there are “a lot of sectors” that cannot find workers

What began as specific difficulties confined to very specific and high-end sectors such as technology have already led to serious and entrenched problems that The recovery of Spain in key activities for the country such as tourism and construction is at risk. There is no manpower. And it is not in one sector, nor in two or three. but in “a lot”. This was announced this Monday by the president of CEOE, Antonio Garamendiat a business meeting on investments in Morocco.

“There is a reality. In Spain, for whatever reason, there are three and a half million unemployed, and the reality is that we lack people for many sectors. I’m talking about construction, catering…”, condemned Garamendi, who pointed out that the lack of workers is not only in STEM professions (those related to technology and digitization), because there are no such profiles; but also in many other unqualified trades, such as waiters, cooks, drivers, electricians, painters, crane operators… Faced with this pressing problem, the businessman called on the Government to “work seriously” on rigorous analysis and a thorough assessment of the problem and to put on the table solutions for its mitigation. In addition, he offered his help in this. “We are open to the fact that serious work can be done precisely in order to be able to hire people to fill these positions,” the Basque leader stressed, facing repeated demonstrations by various provincial employers, who criticize the difficulties in filling vacancies now that it is summer campaign.

The president of the CEOE admitted that they are “in contact” with the Minister of Social Security, José Luis Escriva, to resolve this situation.
