The countdown to the final closing begins Kiddy’s Class. The brand it absorbs Inditex will say goodbye to 30 years of history after the textile giant decided to close the shutters on the 42 facilities it distributed throughout the Spanish country, including Galicia, where it maintains three stores (Pontevedra, Ribeira and Ribadeo).
Comisiones Obreras union (CC.OO.) and the multinational company reached an agreement that keep the employment of 297 workers associated with the company.
As stated in the press release, the company promised to guarantee contracting hours and relocate all staff affected by store closures tomorrow closest to the municipality. If they do not exist, the company will offer them vacancies in stores of other brands of the group and in Big store (remote work).
Although Inditex will ensure compliance with the schedule of workers in charge of caring for minors and family members and will guarantee the seniority of affected employees, the working conditions that will apply to displaced personnel will be the same as those in force in the destination store.

When the post office to be covered is more than 25 kilometers away, Inditex will pay a displacement bonus of 0.19 euros per kilometer. In addition, they will pay €3,000 in reimbursement, cover the cost of moving – should it happen – and extend five days of paid leave.

However, the agreement foresees the possibility for the workers to request the termination of the contract within one year of the relocation if there has been a “substantial change in conditions that are detrimental to the workers”. What assumptions are taken into account? If the destination center is more than 25 kilometers away, change of contract from Monday to Sunday or economic damages related to change of functions or responsibilities.
In that case, he will be entitled to a compensation for unfair dismissal between 33 and 45 gross days per year of work and premiums that will depend on distance and length of service the affected employee.
From 25 to 40 kilometers, the premium will be 8,000 euros gross; from 40 to 70 kilometers, 10,000 euros each; from 70 to 90 kilometers, 12,000 euros, and if the distance is more than 90 kilometers, the premium will reach 14,000 euros.
Workers who have been with the company for less than 10 years will receive an additional 1,000 euros. Those who are between 10 and 15 years old can claim 2,000 euros. From the 15th to the 20th year, the amount is 3,000 euros, and from the 20th year, the premium will reach 4,000 euros.
For other cases in which the conditions are changed, “the compensation established by law will be paid”, they explain.
With this contract, Inditex will concentrate all its offer for children under the banner Zara Kids.
