Panama and Switzerland strengthen the bonds of friendship

The State Secretariat for Economic Affairs of the Swiss Government, the Swiss Embassy and the Swiss-Panama Chamber of Commerce organized the Swiss Night in Panama this week.

The goal of the activity was to strengthen the bonds of friendship and good relations that exist throughout history between the two nations.

“The Swiss community has managed to build a society with which it has managed to enter the multilateral field through participation in various international forums. Panama, for its part, is committed to environmentally friendly sustainable economic growth, where the country seeks to position itself in Latin America as a renewable hydrogen aligned with the goals decarbonization and energy transition“, said Vladimir Franco, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs.

For his part, Swiss Ambassador Gabriele Derighetti congratulated the Panamanian authorities and businessmen who are part of the membership of the Panama-Swiss Chamber of Commerce for their openness and interest in adapting good practices that were key to the development of Swiss society.

“The realization of the Swiss Night was part of the activities of the high economic mission of the State Secretary for Economic Affairs of Switzerland, which visited Panama, with the aim of holding high-level meetings with the authorities of the National Government. the Minister of Trade and Industry and the MFA”, commented the ambassador.

Hervé Lohr, Director for the Americas, Swiss Ministry of Economy, referred to Switzerland’s competitiveness and innovation, which developed from the very beginning, mainly thanks to the strategic position of the European country.

“In that sense, Panama it has similarities with Switzerlandwhich Panamanians use well to increase the competitiveness of different sectors in the country,” said Lohr.

The activity was supported by Swiss companies or companies with strong ties to Switzerland, such as Nestlé, Roche, Sika and Mercantil.

The event also brought together businessmen and ministers of state such as Social Development, María Inés Castillo; Minister of Labor and Labor Development, Doris Zapata and Deputy Minister of Culture, Gabriel González.

In addition to topics such as strengthening competitiveness in Panama, information on health and nutrition was also discussed.
