The interconnected electricity transmission system has been strengthened

Strengthening the interconnected electricity transmission system remains a strategic priority for Electric Transmission Company, SA, (Etesa).

According to the entity only between in 2019 to in 2022 they have almost invested 168 million dollars in the creation of various projects that include adaptation and replacement of equipment.

General Director of Etes, Carlos Mosquera-Castillohe pointed out that during 2022, the state electricity company implemented important projects such as the replacement of transformers in substations Mata de Nance, Progreso and Llano Sánchez.

In addition, reactors are installed in substations Changuinola and guasquitaas well as the implementation of compensation systems STATCOM in substations Panama II and Llano Sanchezwhich together exceeded 78 million dollars.

“Etesa’s main function is the transport of high-voltage electricity, and we are responsible for taking care of more than that 3,000 km from lines i 4500 high-voltage towers, together with the operation of 17 substations and 22 communication points”, said Mosquera.

He explained that for the year 2023, they are planning to enter the function of projects whose investment reaches the total 139.8 million dollars.

As for those leading projects to expand high-voltage electricity transmission capacity, such as construction IV line and Interconnection Panama – Colombiamanager of Etasa, added that progress has been achieved in accordance with the satisfactory execution of critical phases.

“In the IV line, an environmental impact study is already being prepared and soon we will have a final technical report that includes a feasibility report, tender documents and a PPP contract,” Mosquera explained.
