The Civil Guard warns of a new fraud that is crowding out social security

The Civil Guard warns citizens about a new case smiling, a scam carried out via text messages sent to mobile phones in which cybercriminals pretend to be an institution, company or even a person the victim can recognize in order to try to direct them to a platform where they will steal all your personal or banking information.

As stated on the website of the National Institute for Cybersecurity (Inciba), in recent weeks a significant number of citizens they tried to be scammed by criminals posing as Social Security. So the thieves send a message warning that the victim’s health card needs to be updated and include a link to a website that looks like a public service and includes a form to fill out: “Here you can request the user’s personal information in order to steal it and use it for fraud,” summary from Incibea.

The institute’s experts explain that, if they have not clicked on the link in the message or provided information, users only have to delete the received SMS and block the sender. But things get complicated for those who fall for the scam. To begin with, they recommend gathering all the evidence of the fraud so that they can file a report, and in the months following the fraud, conduct what they describe as “egosurfing», which consists of searching the Internet for data that may have been published through tools such as Google. “In case you need to delete them, you can use the right to be forgotten.”
