Social Security added 238,436 workers in April, a record number for April and the second-best total, while unemployment fell by 73,890 people to 2.78 million, levels not seen since 2008 in a brisk Easter and early summer season.
According to data provided this Thursday by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, with this progress in employment in April, the number of average associates reached a new maximum of 20.6 million, according to Efe.
As for the number of people registered at the offices of the State Public Employment Service (SEPE), it fell by 73,890 in April to bring the total to 2,788,370, figures that had not been registered since 2008, according to details from the Ministry of Labour.
“Bonanza Scenario”
As pointed out by the Department headed by Yolanda Díaz, this figure “returns” the labor market “to the boom scenario before the financial crisis”, which showed the lowest unemployment rate in the historical series.
“Both the quantitative and qualitative aspects put us in a scenario for solid employment strongly anchored on the stability resulting from the labor reform,” Trabajo added in statements collected by Europa Press.
The drop in unemployment in April this year, the second in line after March, is lower than that in April 2022, when unemployment fell by 86,260 people. However, the decline this year is greater than that recorded in April 2021 (-39,012 unemployed).
Since the beginning of the comparable historical streak, in 1996, unemployment has fallen 25 times in April and risen three times, especially in 2020, when the arrival of Covid caused unemployment for more than 282,000 people.
Adjusted for seasonality, registered unemployment decreased in the fourth month of 2023 by 2,646 persons, and last year there was an accumulated decrease in unemployment by 234,133 unemployed, which is 7.7% less, with a decrease in female unemployment by 108,818 women (-6.1%). and a decrease in male unemployment by 125,315 men (-10.1%).
