Spain sets a record for natural gas exports to France

Spain achieved a record in April natural gas export to France through its two pipeline interconnections, in Irún, in the Basque Country, and in Larra, in Navarre, through which 6.52 terawatt hours came out, Enagás said in a press release.

This record, which exceeds the flow recorded last May of 5.9 terawatt hours, underlines the “key role” played by the Spanish gas system in the security of Europe’s energy supply. And that, the technical manager of the Spanish gas system, explained that the strike in France for the pension reform caused “a reduction in local gas production, which led to a greater dependence on imports to meet their national demand”.

For this reason, Enagás emphasized that the Spanish gas system has demonstrated its ability to help guarantee security of supply to France, ensuring a constant and stable flow of natural gas.

This “historic record” in hydrocarbon exports to France “not only underlines the robustness of the Spanish system in the European environment,” but also “the importance of having a solid and efficient infrastructure that enables cross-border energy cooperation,” according to Enagás.
