Light in Spain, among the most expensive in the EU despite the Iberian cap

He price for electricity paid by Spanish households in the second half of 2022 was among the highest in the European Union (EU), with 18% more on average despite the fact that the peninsula has already applied the “Iberian exception”, according to data released this week by the Community Statistics Office, Eurostat.

The cost of a kilowatt-hour (KWh) in homes in Spain in the second half of 2022 was 0.355 euros compared to 0.284 euros/KWh on average across the European Union and 0.290 euros/KWh in the eurozone countries, in a calculation that includes the consumption of both households with a free and regulated contract and that also includes taxes and tolls.

The final price of electricity paid in Spain was exceeded only by Denmark (0.5871 euros/KWh), Belgium (0.4489), Ireland (0.4199), the Czech Republic (0.3844), Italy (0.3641), Romania (0.3411) and Germany (0.3357). ), although Eurostat does not have data for the other half of Portugal, which has also already implemented a mechanism that allows limiting the price of gas on the wholesale market.

In the first half of 2022, electricity in Spain was also more expensive on average than in the EU as a whole, at 0.3071 and 0.2525 euros per kilowatt hour, respectively.

As for gas, the price paid by Spanish households in the second half of 2022 was 0.1138 euros/KWh, compared to an average of 0.1137 euros/KWh in community households and 0.986 euros/KWh in eurozone countries, according to the data. latest Eurostat data.

So Spain was the sixth country whose households paid more expensive gas consumption in the second half of last year, it was surpassed only by Sweden (0.2751 euros/KWh), Denmark (0.2084), the Netherlands (0.1925), the Czech Republic (0.1904) and Greece (0.1599).
