Panama wants to bring 150 athletes to the Central American Games

70 days from the start of the Central American and Caribbean GamesJune 23 Panama considers it premature to determine the value of the medals its delegation may receive in San Salvador and Santo Domingo.

“It’s still a bit early. It’s obvious that we still don’t have a fully formed delegation for the medal forecast.”Panama Olympic Committee (COP) president Damaris Young told Efe.

At the last edition of the Central American and Caribbean Games, held in 2018 in the Caribbean city of Barranquilla, the delegation of Panama won 13 medals, 3 of which were won by judokas. Kristine Jiménez and Miryam Roper and swimmer Edgar Crespo.

“As far as medal expectations are concerned, I try to be very responsible towards the work of our technical team. Various sports prepared very hard and we have high expectations from them”he commented.

Young predicted that his country on XXIV. edition of the Games intends to bring a larger delegation than the one that participated in Barranquillathe Colombian city to which he took 107 athletes.

“Our expectations are 150 athletes. So far we have 97 classified, more or less in 25 sports. This is what we are currently visualizing”he showed.

He said that of the 25 disciplines that were classified, gymnastics, boxing, swimming and cycling important disciplines for your country.

“For the first time, we will have a complete gymnastics team. The girls have been preparing very hard, they have been training in Brazil for almost a month, at the highest level.”he explained.

However, the president of the COP guaranteed that the level of preparation does not want to put pressure on the competitors, and he praised that the delegation that is being formed has “athletes who are benchmarks” for young promises

“I won’t make it. There are really a lot of athletes who are doing their best, trying, practicing and training very hard, so we’re looking forward to Central America and the Caribbean being good for us.”he pointed out.

XXIV edition of the magazine Games of Central America and the Caribbean It will be held until July 8 in San Salvador, and there will also be competitions in Santo Domingo.
