Absenteeism jumped in Galicia to 6.9%, the eighth highest rate in Spain

Absence from work due to sickness rose to 5.1% across Spain

He absenteeism increased by 0.4 points in Galicia during the last quarter of the year, putting Galicians at the eighth highest rate in the country, at 6.9%. Just a quarter ago (July to September) the community was three places below, with the seventh lowest rate in the rankings. This is shown by the last one Report on healthy company management and absenteeism published by Adecco, which states that heabsenteeism rate in Spain as a whole for the fourth quarter of 2022 it was 6.7%, a figure that remains practically stable compared to the previous quarter, recording an increase of only 0.02 percentage points. Galicia is thus above the national average, together with Asturias (which with 7.8% stands as the community most affected by absenteeism), Aragon (with a rate of 7.4%), Castilla y León (7.3%), Cantabria (7.2), Basque Country and Navarre (both with 7.1%) and Catalonia (6.8%).

He absence from work does not mean that these absences are unjustified. In fact, temporary incapacity (known as sick leave) is the main reason for absenteeism, with a rate of 5.1% across Spain, which represents an increase of one tenth compared to the previous quarter and two tenths more than in the same period in 2021. In Galicia the rate of temporary disability rose to 5.3%.

By sector, industry is the sector with higher rate of absenteeism from work, 7.1%, followed by the service sector (6.8%) and construction (5.2%). If the data is analyzed by parts of the activity, social services without accommodation are presented higher rate of absenteeism from work with 10.6 percent. This is followed by health activities (10.5%) and assistance in housing institutions (10%).

On the contrary, divisions with a lower level of absenteeism these are film, video and television program activities, sound recording and music publishing (2.5%); real estate business (3.4%) and telecommunications (3.5%).
