Garamendi criticizes the impact of “taxes” on banks before the new financial crisis

The president of CEOE believes that the sector would be better equipped without the “interventionism” of the Government

President of large Spanish employers (CEO), Antonio Garamendihe questioned this Monday bank tax because of the consequences it could have on the Spanish financial sector due to the turbulence in the European and American markets.

“We see financial crisis to live Talk about robustness banking Spain, because if it didn’t have a big tax, it would be 2,500 million more, which is necessary, if we have very strong, very powerful companies in this country, of which we should be very proud,” said Garamendi during his speech at Wake up, Spain! according to Europa Press.

The tax alluded to by the president of the CEOE is the one that taxes the interest and commissions of 4.8% of all entities that have collected more than 800 million in 2019, and this affects the activities that the entities carry out in Spain. This tax is levied in 2022 and started to be collected in 2023.

The president of businessmen sees these new taxes, which also apply to energy companies and large fortunes, as “state interventionism”.

For Garamendi, it is about selective taxes on certain sectors according to their benefit, and he questioned their usefulness because, according to him, the goal is to have strong companies.

Now you earn a lot or little and that’s why I charge you or not, and what we need is the powerful force of companies, he emphasized.

Criticism of the pension reform

At this gathering, the president of the business community referred to pensions, which, in his opinion, “were not well studied”. “A problem has been created in this country,” he added.

The businessmen signed the contract for the first phase of the project pension reformbut they opposed the second one, agreed between the Government and the trade union, and approved a few weeks ago in the Council of Ministers.
