Megas is expanding its international presence, after acquired new facilities in France. This is the company Société Rouennaise de Déroulage, specialized in the production and sale of metal products. Although the Naronese steel company maintains the iron silence that characterizes its activity, the respective websites of both companies already report on the merger of the French company with the Galician industrial group. The purchase took effect this month.
Société Rouennaise de Déroulage was founded in 1991. It is located on the banks of the Seine, in a port area with the capacity to dock ships of up to 10,000 tons. Located thirty kilometers from the city of Rouen and fifty from Le Havre, in Gallic Normandy — in the north of the country — it has the capacity to move up to 150,000 tons of products per year. It is also close to the main highways in the region.
Société Rouennaise de Déroulage reported that the acquisition “enables the Megas group to diversify and intensify its presence in Europe and offer a full range of products. In addition, it allows for an increase in storage capacity and the movement of production leaving the Narón factory.
Sea route
The proximity of the O Couto factory to the port of Ferrol, from where it usually ships its products, will also allow it to ship by sea to the new facilities in France, and from there the goods will also be able to circulate, both by ship and road transport.
According to the economic information published in the country, the decline in the economic result of the French company has been a constant in recent years. It employs less than 20 workers.
managers Megasa already recently visited the port facilities and the factory. Sources from the sector confirmed that the industrial group had been eyeing this operation for a long time.
in three countries
Megasa has three production facilities in Spain (two in Narón and one in Zaragoza); three in Portugal (two near Lisbon and one in Porto), to which France has now been added. There are also two recycling plants in the national territory and in the Portuguese country. It has a distribution center in Madrid.
The group, of family origin and founded in 1953, has a global workforce of more than 1,000 employees — of which 130 are in the Naronesa steel plant — and has an annual production capacity of three million tons of steel objects. long, among them, corrugated round, wire rod and electro-welded mesh.
The workforce at the O Couto ironworks currently works in two shifts, morning and night. Since it is an electro-intensive company, it focuses production on the most economical time intervals for electricity consumption. From May, they start working in the morning and afternoon shifts, until July when the campus enjoys summer holidays.
