The government will unilaterally increase the retirement age

Paris- The French government decided to approve the controversy pension reform a mechanism that allows avoiding voting in the National Assembly, in the absence of a sufficient majority, various domestic media announced.

The decision to invoke Article 49, Paragraph 3 of the Constitution was made after the third meeting held this Thursday, President Emmanuel Macron Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne and several members of the executive branch.

This morning, the Senate approved the reform with a comfortable margin, but doubts among a significant number of representatives from the Macron bloc and their conservative allies from the LR did not enable the necessary number of votes to be reached in the Assembly.

Resorting to 49.3 opens the door to a possible political crisiswith several opposition calls for Borneo’s resignation and the quick announcement of two no-confidence motions, one left-wing and the other far-right.

“Borne can’t go on,” the far-right leader Marine Le Pen said clearlywho emphasized that “the majority of the French” had spoken out against the government’s project.

French Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne officially announced this to the National Assembly The government will avoid a vote by deputies on the acceptance of the controversial pension reform.

You cannot risk playing with the future of pensions, this reform is necessary, said Borne amid shouts and whistles from the opposition, announce that the executive branch will “due to responsibility” refer to Article 49.3 of the Constitution.

Terminal he had to speak amid shouts and chants of La Marseillaise by left-wing MPswho also chanted “resignation, resignation” to the prime minister.

The decision to resort to this mechanism, instead of voting, was considered very risky due to the lack of a clear majority in the Assembly, it was passed after a third meeting in the Champs-Élysées by the President, Emmanuel Macron, the Prime Minister and several members of the executive.

Macron, whose popularity has plummeted in the past month, sees the reform as key to balancing the pension system’s deficitwhich, according to the Government’s calculations, is increasing year by year due to the decrease in the number of working age and the increase in pensioners, which is partly attributed to the aging of the population.

While, Several sectoral strikes, most notably the garbage collection strike in cities such as Paris, have been ongoing since March 7.when the movement hardened.
