Mass registration of lawyers of resident agents was carried out

As part of the country’s initiatives to bring widespread compliance to two actions that see partial moves to de-greylist Financial Action Task Force (FATF)the day of the mass registration of lawyers of resident agents in the Single register of end users is held in the Congress Center of Atlapa.

During the activity, organized by Administration for Non-Financial Entities (SSNF)in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) and the Financial Analysis Unit (UAF), technical secretary of the National Commission for the Prevention of Money Laundering, Financing of Terrorism and Financing of the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction (CNBC), Isabel Vecchio Arófulo expressed that from 15 actions that the plan must delist 13 largely fulfilled, for which Panama received an increase in its rating at the last plenary session, February 24, 2023.

Vecchio Arófulo, who also presides Directorate for International Financial and Fiscal Strategy (DEFFI) of MEFhe added that the current focus is on two partially completed actions, which specifically concern informing end users”.

In that sense, Dayra Carrizo, Superintendent of the SSNFhe stated that the conference “allows mass access to resident agents, who are lawyers who constitute legal entities in Panama and who are referred to the Unified Registry of End Users.”

On its part, the director of the UAF, Isabel Pérezwho also participated in the conference, pointed out that one of the conditions for resident agents to register with the Directorate for Non-Financial Entities is to have a UAF code that is assigned to taxpayers to make transaction reports suspicious.

For that reason, UAF is present on the day, so resident agents who come to register at SSNF and do not have a UAF code can get both records in one visit.

The event started on March 6 and will continue throughout the month, with the aim of not only increasing the amount of information needed by the registry, but also the proper registration of resident agents, he assured. director of the Register of End Users of the SSNF, Hipólito Donoso Garrido.

He added that Internal Affairs resident agents can schedule date virtually and announced that there will be a nationwide tour in the coming months.
